Ngon Bistro

Ngon Bistro

Ngon Bistro (pronounced “nong”) is a modern Vietnamese restaurant that specializes in providing French-Vietnamese food using fresh, local, and sustainable ingredients. According to NgonBistro.com, the interior of Ngon Bistro has “a full bar that focuses exclusively on Minnesota craft beers and a full line of craft spirits & cocktails.”

We went to Ngon Bistro on Friday, November 20, 2015 at 7:00 PM. When we got there, it was very busy and nearly all the tables were full. If you plan to go eat at this restaurant on a Friday night or during the busy hours, I recommend that you reserve a table. Especially when you have more than four people.

The atmosphere of Ngon Bistro has a warm feeling to it and its interior is lit with a combination of artificial lightings and candles. This restaurant has an impressive wine and beer list and good service. Furthermore, the employees are well-dressed and polite. When we were there, it was very busy so the service was slower than average.

Ngon Bistro Interior

Ngon Bistro’s pho dishes are slowly crafted from natural grass-fed oxtail and bones and premium spices. Their main pho dishes are oxtail, organic chicken, ribeye, duck, and seafood. Like most restaurants that serve pho, Ngon Bistro does not have veggie pho.

The flavor of their oxtail pho was delicious. It was soothing and well-seasoned and salted to near perfection. Some of the people in our group drank nearly all of their broth. The broth for the oxtail pho is one of the best pho broths that I have tasted. The noodles were great too.

Unfortunately, Ngon Bistro does not include basil in the side dish for their pho. The night we were there, they only gave us bean sprouts, jalapenos, lime, and hoisin sauce. I am sure they have basil so if you want it, you may need to ask them to include it in the side dish. When you add basil to pho, it gives the pho an aromatic scent and flavor.

Unlike most restaurants that serve pho, Ngon Bistro does not have sriracha and soy sauce on the table, so if you want them, you need to let the server know.

Ngon Bistro’s pho dishes are more expensive than average. Most normal size pho dishes usually cost about $8.00. The pho dishes at Ngon Bistro cost roughly $12.00. The higher cost is due to certain natural and organic ingredients.

I Luv Pho recommends Ngon Bistro.

I Heart Pho

I Heart Pho

We went to eat at I Heart Pho on a Tuesday night (November 10, 2015) at 6:00 PM, so it was not busy when we got there. If you plan to go eat at this restaurant after sunset, you may have a hard time seeing the restaurant, because it does not have many lightings on the outside of it.

The interior space of I Heart Pho is about average and it was clean when we were there. The service was great and fast, but then again it was not busy when we were there. The broth and noodles for the beef pho were rich in flavor and tasty. The basil, bean sprouts, and lime were fresh, and the price was reasonable.

The menu of I Heart Pho is much smaller than the menu of other pho restaurants. For the types of pho dish, there are three main choices, which are beef, chicken, and seafood. One of the people in our group said “the spring roll was okay. I have had better.”

Pho 79 on Energy Park Drive

Pho 79 Energy Park Drive

We went to eat pho at Pho 79 on Saturday October 17, 2015 at 1:00 PM. When I got to the restaurant, it was very busy. However, finding a parking space was not a problem due to their decent size parking lot.

When I stepped into Pho 79, it was jam-packed. Even though it was super busy, I only had to wait for a little more than five minutes to get a table for the five of us.

Most of time when I go to a busy restaurant, their service are slow and the interior of the restaurant is not as clean as it should be. This was not the case for Pho 79. Even though it was busy, the interior of Pho 79 was clean and the service was better than average. Furthermore, the workers of Pho 79 were friendly to talk to.

Pho 79 did not serve veggie pho, so I had to order the beef pho with meatballs. The broth and noodles for the beef pho were tasty. The flavor of the beef pho was delicious and soothing, and the temperature of the broth was hot enough to warm me up without burning my lips.

For the types of pho dish, there are three main choices, which are beef, chicken, and seafood. All their pho dishes are topped with onion and cilantro and served with a side of bean sprouts, jalapenos, basil, and lime. When they served us these extra ingredients, they were fresh.

As for the sauces and condiments, they have sriracha, hoisin sauce, soy sauce, fish sauce, salt, and pepper.

The prices of the pho dishes were reasonable and so was the amount of meats and noodles. One of the I Luv Pho members said the “egg rolls were good too.”

I Luv Pho recommends Pho 79.

Pho and Drinks at Ngon Bistro (Meetup)

Ngon Bistro Vietnamese French Restaurant

Ngon Bistro is a modern Vietnamese restaurant that specializes in providing French-Vietnamese food using fresh, local, and sustainable ingredients. According to their website, Ngon Bistro also has “a full bar that focuses exclusively on Minnesota craft beers and a full line of craft spirits & cocktails.” I have not tried their pho dishes, so I do not know how tasty they are. However, this restaurant has good reviews, so their pho and food should be yummy! Not in the mood for pho? No problem! Ngon Bistro serves other Asian food too.

The date and time for this pho meetup is today (November 20, 2015) at 7:00 PM. If you want to come, you need to reserve your spot. For more information and to reserve your spot, please visit the I Luv Pho Meetup group page.

IndoChin Vietnamese Restaurant

IndoChin Vietnamese Restaurant

IndoChin is located on Grand Avenue so there is a decent amount of traffic. Finding a place to park your car can be a pain. The nice thing about Grand Avenue is that it has many shops, bars, and restaurants. After eating pho, you can walk around to visit shops or go to a bar to have a few drinks.

We went to eat at IndoChin on Saturday October 3, 2015 at 1:00 PM. When we were there, the interior of the restaurant was clean and peaceful and had a friendly atmosphere. The service was great but then again it was not busy when we were there.

IndoChin did not have veggie pho, so I ordered the beef pho with meatballs. The broth of the beef pho was delicious. It was soothing, rich in flavor, and not sweet like some pho broth. The temperature of the broth was just right; it was hot enough to warm me up without burning my tongue.

As for the noodles, they were nearly perfect because they were not too soft or too hard. The side of herbs, bean sprouts, and lime were fresh, and the price of their pho dishes was reasonable.

For the types of pho dish, there are three main choices, which are beef, chicken, and seafood. IndoChin does not have as many condiments as other pho restaurants, such as Pho 79.

The interior of IndoChin is smaller than most pho restaurants, so if you have a group of over 6 people, you may want to reserve your table ahead of time, especially during the busy hours and the weekends.

I Luv Pho recommends IndoChin.
